Generator Hookup Questions

What does a generator hookup include?

The exact setup depends on the generator and your home. Brandon can install the appropriate inlet, wiring, and transfer equipment so you can power selected circuits safely.

Can I connect a portable generator to my electrical panel?

Yes. A properly installed connection lets a portable generator supply selected household circuits without relying on extension cords through the house.

Why can’t I plug a generator directly into a wall outlet?

That can backfeed the electrical system and put people at serious risk. A generator should use approved transfer equipment installed by a licensed electrician.

How do I choose which circuits the generator will power?

Brandon will talk through what matters most—often the fridge, sump pump, furnace controls, lighting, and a few outlets—then plan the connection around the generator’s capacity.

Do you handle permanent backup generator connections?

Yes. Call Brandon to talk through the generator, transfer equipment, and electrical work needed for a permanent backup-power setup.

Where should a portable generator be used?

Generators must operate outdoors, well away from doors, windows, and vents. Never run one inside a home, garage, or other enclosed space because of carbon monoxide.

How much does a generator hookup cost?

The cost depends on the generator, panel, transfer equipment, and wiring route. Give Brandon a call and he’ll make the quoting process straightforward.

Can you add a generator hookup to an older panel?

Often, but the panel needs to be checked first. Brandon will confirm its condition, available space, and compatibility before recommending the right approach.

Can you troubleshoot an existing generator hookup?

Yes. Brandon can check the inlet, transfer equipment, breakers, and related wiring to find problems on the electrical side of the system.

What warranty comes with a generator connection?

The electrical workmanship is covered for one year. If something doesn’t seem right, call Brandon directly and he’ll take care of it.
